Asia Argento was born in Rome, Italy, into an extended family of actors and filmmakers, both occupations which she has herself pursued. Aged nine, Asia made her film debut alongside Sergio Citti in Sogni e bisogni. In 1988 The Church, a film by Michele Soavi The Church was directed by Michele Soavi and she played in the role of Cristina Comencini's Zoo. Red Wood Pigeon, directed by Moretti in 1989, was her character as Nanni Moretti's daughter. Close Friends (written and directed by Michele Placido) was when Asia's acting career truly took off. The roles she played changed from being very young before becoming more mature. It was received well during the Cannes International Film Festival. The Phantom of the Opera is the third film she has made alongside the father of her. Trauma and The Stendhal Syndrome were the two previous films. The Phantom of the Opera, which was made by her late father The Phantom of the Opera is the third three movies she's been involved in. The other two were Trauma and The Stendhal Syndrome. Giuseppe Piccioni used her absorbed and intense manner of acting in Condannato a nozze. Patrice Chereau directed her in Queen Margot, where she was the main character. The actress was again a part of Michel Piccoli on Peter Del Monte's Traveling Companion in 1995, giving her a second David di Donatello as and a Grolla D'oro. Asia started directing as profession in 1994. Her debut short film was Prospettive. The documentary she wrote about her father followed by Abel/Asia (1998) the film which won an award in the Rome Film Festival, were the two films she produced between 1996 and 1998. Asia produced her first feature in Scarlet Diva (2000). It was a collaborative effort between Asia and screenwriter/actor Linda McCartney. The movie was released on May 20 on the 20th of May in Italy and the rest of world. It won an award at the Williamsburg Film Festival in Brooklyn, New York. After directing numerous music videos the actress gave birth to her first child, Anna Lou. In 2002 Asia appeared in The Red Siren with Jean Marc Barr, and Rob Cohen's Action-Thrille, directed by Vin Diesel. Asia is the writer of a number of short stories that were published in a variety of magazines.
